Overview
This two day, one night safari package is meticulously crafted for wildlife enthusiasts seeking guaranteed encounters with large herds of Asian Elephants. The tour focuses primarily on Udawalawe National Park, Sri Lanka's most reliable location for elephant viewing, combined with a visit to the crucial Elephant Transit Home (ETH). Guests will enjoy two separate safari drives (evening and morning), allowing for maximum wildlife viewing opportunities and an immersive jungle lodge experience, starting and ending at the airport.
Day 01: Southward Journey & Afternoon Safari
The journey begins with an early morning pickup at CMB, utilizing the Southern Expressway (E01) to ensure a swift, comfortable transfer to the wilderness area surrounding Udawalawe. After checking into a comfortable safari lodge, the afternoon is dedicated to the first, crucial game drive.
Morning Transfer (07:00 AM): Pickup from Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) and immediate transfer to the Udawalawe region (Approx. 4-5 hours drive).
Check in & Lunch (12:00 PM - 02:00 PM): Arrive at the safari lodge/hotel, check in, and enjoy a nourishing lunch.
Afternoon Safari (02:30 PM - 06:00 PM):
Game Drive 1: Embark on the first thrilling 4x4 jeep safari in Udawalawe National Park. Focus on the vast reservoir area where large elephant herds gather to graze and bathe during the late afternoon.
Wildlife: Look out for Elephants, Water Buffalo, Jackals, Crocodiles, and the diverse raptors and birds of prey.
Evening (06:30 PM onwards): Return to the lodge, freshen up, and enjoy a traditional Sri Lankan dinner. Overnight Stay in Udawalawe.
Day 02: Safari, Elephant Conservation & Departure
The second day starts before sunrise to catch the morning safari drive the best time to observe the park's predators and smaller mammals before the heat sets in. The tour concludes with an educational conservation visit and the return transfer to the airport.
Early Morning Safari (05:30 AM - 09:00 AM):
Game Drive 2: Head back into Udawalawe for a second game drive, aiming to spot the shy golden jackals, mongoose, and the wider variety of birdlife.
Breakfast & Check-out (09:00 AM - 10:30 AM): Return to the lodge, enjoy a full breakfast, and check out.
Conservation Visit (10:30 AM - 12:00 PM):
Elephant Transit Home (ETH): Visit the nearby ETH to witness the orphaned elephant calves being fed (timing depends on the 10:45 AM or 11:45 AM feeding session), learning about vital conservation efforts.
Lunch & Departure (12:00 PM - 05:00 PM): Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. Commence the comfortable return transfer via the expressway directly to Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB).
