Overview
This exhilarating, high-energy one-day tour is the ultimate escape for adrenaline seekers. It takes you directly to Kitulgala, Sri Lanka’s renowned adventure capital, nestled in the wet zone rainforest. The focus is on the thrilling White Water Rafting experience on the picturesque Kelani River, the location famously used for filming The Bridge on the River Kwai. This efficient itinerary maximizes the time spent on water activities, ensuring a full day of excitement before returning comfortably to the airport.
Day 01: Arrival, River Rapids & Departure
The adventure begins with a very early morning pickup from Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB), followed by a direct, scenic transfer inland to Kitulgala. Upon arrival, the focus shifts immediately to gearing up and receiving a crucial safety briefing from certified adventure instructors before commencing the river activities.
Early Morning Transfer (04:30 AM): Pickup from CMB and direct transfer to the adventure base camp in Kitulgala (Approx. 3 hours drive).
Adventure Briefing & Gear-Up (07:30 AM - 09:00 AM):
Welcome & Safety: Arrive at the riverside camp, receive a refreshing welcome drink, change into adventure gear, and attend a comprehensive safety briefing.
Commence Rafting: Begin the White Water Rafting excursion on the Kelani River, tackling five major rapids and four minor rapids over approximately 5 km.
The mid day includes additional optional adventure activities that utilize the natural environment, followed by a well-deserved traditional Sri Lankan lunch at a riverside restaurant. The afternoon is reserved for the return journey, ensuring a timely drop-off back at the airport.
Adventure Combo (09:00 AM - 12:30 PM):
Canyoning/Stream Slides: Engage in a short trek to the Kataran Oya stream for Confidence Jumping and sliding down natural rock pools with safety gear.
River Dip: Time for a relaxing, refreshing natural swim in the calm sections of the Kelani River.
Lunch Break (12:30 PM - 01:30 PM): Enjoy a traditional Sri Lankan rice and curry lunch at a scenic riverside location.
Departure (02:00 PM - 05:30 PM): Commence the comfortable return transfer directly to Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB). You will be dropped off at the airport for your onward journey.
