Overview

This two day, one night coastal package offers a blend of cultural immersion and thrilling marine wildlife adventure. The first day is dedicated to exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Galle Fort, a beautifully preserved colonial city, while the second day features a guaranteed whale-watching excursion off the coast of Mirissa/Dondra, the best location in the Indian Ocean for viewing Blue Whales. The efficient itinerary uses the Southern Expressway (E01) for swift transfers, starting and ending at the airport.

Day 01: Arrival, Coastal Transfer & Fort Immersion

The journey begins with a smooth transfer from the airport to the South Coast via the Southern Expressway. The afternoon is dedicated entirely to the Galle Fort, ensuring guests experience the sunset and the unique evening atmosphere inside the fortress.

• Morning Transfer (10:00 AM): Pickup from Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) and transfer directly to the Galle/Unawatuna area (Approx. 2.5 - 3 hours drive).

• Check-in & Lunch (01:00 PM - 02:00 PM): Arrive at the coastal hotel/boutique accommodation, check in, and enjoy a seaside lunch.

• Galle Fort Exploration (02:30 PM - 06:30 PM):

  • Walking Tour: Begin a comprehensive guided walking tour of Galle Fort. Explore the narrow streets, colonial villas, the iconic Dutch Reformed Church, and the historic Galle Lighthouse.

  • Sunset on the Ramparts: Walk along the massive stone ramparts, enjoying the local life and a spectacular Indian Ocean sunset.1

• Evening (07:30 PM onwards): Enjoy dinner at a charming restaurant inside the Fort, offering a blend of European and local flavours. Overnight Stay near Galle/Mirissa.

Day 02: Whale Watching Thrills & Departure

Day two requires an extremely early start for the whale watching excursion, providing the best chance of spotting the migrating marine giants. After the adventure, the long-distance return transfer back to the airport begins.

• Pre-Dawn Start (05:30 AM): Very early morning transfer to Mirissa Harbour (or the nearest active whale watching port).

• Whale Watching Excursion (06:00 AM - 11:00 AM):

  • Marine Safari: Board a comfortable, specialized vessel for the Whale and Dolphin Watching safari.2 Search for the majestic Blue Whale (the largest animal on earth), Sperm Whales, and pods of playful dolphins.3

• Late Breakfast & Freshen Up (11:30 AM - 01:00 PM): Return to the hotel/port area for a substantial late breakfast or early lunch and a quick freshen up.

• Departure Transfer (01:30 PM - 05:00 PM): Commence the comfortable return transfer via the expressway directly to Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB).
